1 dead after car tries to beat DART train

A passenger in a sports car was killed after being hit by a Dallas Area Rapid Transit train late Monday night.

Police said the driver of the car was trying to beat the train across the tracks a few blocks away from Fair Park in South Dallas.

The Green Line train hit the car on the passenger side. The impact was so great it knocked the car into the intersection on Pine-Spring Connection and Scyene Road.

The driver was injured, but not seriously hurt. Her passenger died at the scene. No one in the train was injured.

Police have not yet released the names of those involved.
