Muslim man fearful after likely hate crime

A Muslim man attacked in a likely hate crime last week is revealing details about the assault exclusively to FOX 5.

The man and his wife do not want to be identified because their attacker is still at large.

The husband says he and his wife we on their way to a neighborhood park near Rollins Avenue in Rockville when a man overheard them speaking Arabic and began hurling anti-Muslim slurs. The Muslim man says the attacker then put him in a headlock and dragged him to the ground, causing superficial injuries to his face and neck.

"I was talking, speaking in my language and then I hear the voice come from here and then when I turn he attacked me directly on my face, on my neck," the man said.

"I like this country. I dream to come to this country to live here, but now to be honest I am still here I love this country, but it's scary. This makes you scared," he said.

Montgomery County Police have said they are investigating the attack as a hate crime. They don't believe the assault was caught on surveillance video.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them.

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
