Montgomery, Prince George's struggle with snow removal from side streets days after storm ends

- Many of the areas continue to struggle with snow removal from side-streets days after the blizzard of 2016 moved out of the area – but it seems none so much as Montgomery and Prince George’s.

FOX 5 was out Wednesday morning and encountered angry residents - many of them who tell us the same story -- not only are their streets not passable but the plows have not even bothered to try.

Melanie Alnwick was in Aspen Hill to see if Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett’s promise to plow every street at least once by 7 a.m. We quickly found out that this promise was broken. As she reported only Connecticut Avenue, our camera spotted many area side-roads that looked completely untouched.

One resident who Melanie spoke with said she thinks the reason for the delay in plowing the streets in Aspen Hill comes from confusion as to who is responsible.

"This has been going on for years," said Patty Duval. “The County government says it’s their road to plow – the State government says its their road to plow. They can’t seem to make a decision but they do a lot of finger-pointing. I’ve lived here all my life so I can tell you how long it has been going on. We had to actually shovel out with several of our other neighbors in order to get out of where we are."

Duval said after plows did not arrive in the days following the storm, she put in request on Montgomery County’s website to have the area cleared. When she checked backed Wednesday morning, she said the website’s map stated that the roads had been cleared. But they had not been

"It said that they have come through and everything is good – well, it’s not good - we don’t have our first swipe – and I don’t think the County Executive needs to be making promises to Montgomery County residents about how everything is going to be taken care of at 7 o’clock on Wednesday morning, because obviously he doesn’t live on my street," she said.
