COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The mother of a Maryland toddler found dead in an Ohio creek has waived a hearing and had her child-endangerment case bound over to county court.

An attorney for 24-year-old Dainesha Stevens says they're trying to negotiate a resolution before the end of a 60-day window for an indictment. Stevens remains in custody.

She was charged with child endangering and evidence tampering in municipal court after Columbus police found her son's body in a creek Dec. 31. A coroner ruled it a homicide and said 1-year-old Cameron Beckford apparently died of blunt force trauma to his chest and abdomen.

Authorities say Stevens brought the boy to Ohio during a trip to see a friend. A charging document alleged Stevens let someone spank the boy so violently that he bled.
