Missing mother in custody; son in care of family

A Fairfax County mother who went missing with her 9-year-old son is in custody undergoing a mental evacuation. The family of 29-year-old Jury Chavez reported her and her son missing Sunday. Chavez suffers from schizophrenia. Her 9-year-old son Jair Sanchez is in the care of family members.

Fairfax County police are searching for a missing 29-year-old woman and her 9-year-old son from the Alexandria area of Fairfax County.

According to police, concerned family members called police in an attempt to get mental health services for their daughter, 29-year-old Jury Chavez. Chavez fled the residence taking her 9-year-old son, Jair Sanchez with her.

Officers responded to the 5600 block of Ridge View Drive, checked the area extensively with the assistance of the police helicopter but were unable to locate them.

According to family members, Chavez suffers from schizophrenia as well as other mental health related issues and is in need of services. Her son may be in her company or not.

Chavez was last seen leaving her residence on Ridge View Drive walking into the wooded area behind it around 10:40 a.m. wearing a black north face jacket with a dark blue hooded sweatshirt underneath, white sweatpants, and white and black Nike Air Jordan shoes. She is a Hispanic female, about 5 feet tall, weighs approximately 115 pounds and has brown eyes. She may have her hair tied back in a pony tail and has a tattoo on chest of letters that read "Blessed by the Best"

Her son Jair Sanchez was last seen wearing a long-sleeve shirt with yellow letters on front of chest, black sweatpants with a white stripe down the side and may be wearing grey-colored shoes.
