Metrobus crashes into tree after collision with truck in Silver Spring

At least 15 people were injured after a Metrobus crashed into a tree resulting from a collision with a pickup truck in Silver Spring Monday afternoon, according to officials.

The crash happened at around 4 p.m. on East-West Highway at Grubb Road.

The driver of the Metrobus had to be extricated from the bus after being trapped for about 15 minutes. Metro Transit Police said the driver was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but the driver's condition was later upgraded to stable.

Passengers on the bus were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of pickup truck will receive four citations for the accident and the Metrobus driver was not at fault.

Traffic was blocked off in the area, but all lanes on East-West Highway reopened by 6:50 p.m.
