Memorial Day parade, road closures and Metro schedule

Here is a look at road closures and service changed in and around the Washington, D.C. area on Memorial Day.

DC MEMORIAL DAY PARADE

On Monday, May 29, 2017, the Memorial Day Parade will take place in the District of Columbia. In conjunction with this event, there will be several street closures that motorists should take into consideration:

Assembly Area

The parade will assemble in the following location and will be closed from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm:

7th Street between Independence Avenue, SW & Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Constitution Avenue, NW between 6th Street to 9th Street, NW

Parade Route

The parade will start at 2:00 pm and should disband at 5:00 pm in the following locations:

Start at 7th Street & Constitution Avenue, NW

Proceed on Constitution Avenue, NW

Disband between 18th & 23rd Streets, on Constitution Avenue and Virginia Avenue NW.

Total road closures will begin at approximately 1:00 pm until about 5:00 pm from 7th and Constitution Avenue Northwest to 23rd & Constitution Avenue Northwest.

Motorists traveling in the area of this event may experience delays and should consider alternative routes, if possible. The Metropolitan Police Department and the District Department of Transportation would like to remind motorists to pay full attention whenever operating any motor vehicle and to be mindful of heavy pedestrian traffic that may be associated with special events. These street closings are subject to change without notice based upon unanticipated events and prevailing conditions.

DC METRO SCHEDULE

Metro Service Information for Memorial Day 2017

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2017, Metro service will operate as follows:

Metrorail: The system will open at 7 a.m. and close at midnight. Trains will operate on a Sunday schedule. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day, and parking will be free at all Metrorail parking facilities. Take note of scheduled service adjustments on the Red, Orange, Silver, Blue and Yellow lines.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Sunday schedule. Check bus timetables for details.

MetroAccess: All subscription trips will be canceled on Monday. Customers wishing to travel on the holiday should make a separate reservation.

In addition, Metro's customer information call center will be closed Monday in observance of the holiday. Automated information is available 24/7 by calling (202) 637-7000.
