Medstar says no patient information compromised during security breach

Medstar Health Inc. says no patient information was compromised during a computer security breach earlier this week.

The Washington-area hospitals say its three main clinical information systems that support patient care are moving to full restoration.

The question remains, did they pay the ransom money? Medstar has remained pretty tight lipped about whether or not they paid the money. They are only saying that they were hit with a virus, they did however confirm they are working with the FBI and as far as they know patient information was not compromised.

Hackers hit the computer system earlier this week and now the FBI is investigating the malware attack that forced the hospital chain to use paper systems and prevented patients from booking appointments.

The company is still warning customers that it may be difficult to make appointments online and it's encouraging patients to call their provider's office directly for information.
