A Rockville man who admitted to killing his neighbors last may before leaving on a cruise to Alaska was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences Tuesday.
A judge sentenced Scott Tomaszewski to life without the possibility of parole.
He pleaded guilty last September to murdering Jody Vilardo and her husband, Richard Vilardo, who were found stabbed to death at their Rockville, Maryland, home on Mother's Day 2015.
Jody Vilardo was found in the kitchen with stab wounds, while Richard Vilardo was found on the patio with stab wounds. Police say after stabbing them to death, he spent time going through their house looking for items to steal.
Tomaszewski was arrested days later while still in Alaska on vacation with his family.
The judge said that there is no legal defense for this crime, and he gave Tomaszewski the highest punishment available for this crime under Maryland law.
