Man stabbed in hand trying to stop robbery on Metro train; suspect arrested

Metro Transit Police say a man was stabbed in the hand at the Federal Center SW Metro station after trying to stop an attempted robbery of a cell phone.

Police say the incident began at the L'Enfant Plaza station as the suspect boarded a train and attempted to steal a phone from another passenger. Another rider intervened and was stabbed.

The train was held up at the Federal Center station for about 20 minutes as police arrested a 19-year-old man for the incident.

The victim's injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

The incident led to delays on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines on Wednesday.
