Man charged with assault after being shot by police in DC

WASHINGTON (AP) — D.C. police say officers shot and wounded a man who pointed a gun at officers in northwest Washington.

The shooting occurred late Tuesday night. Police say 44-year-old Michael Ashe of southeast Washington suffered non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot by officers.

Police say Ashe is suspected of shooting another man before officers arrived. That man is also expected to survive.

Police were called to an intersection about five blocks away from the Washington Convention Center late Tuesday for a report of shots fired. Police say officers saw an armed man fleeing the scene. They confronted him nearby, and police say officers opened fire after he refused to drop his weapon.

Ashe has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault on a police officer.
