Woman charged with DWI after allegedly striking Fairfax Co. police chief driving in cruiser

Fairfax County Police say their police chief is back to work after his cruiser was rear-ended Monday night by a suspected drunk driver in Centreville.

Police Chief Edwin Roessler left an awards event in his vehicle at around 8:40 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a vehicle while stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Lee Highway and Stone Road.

Roessler was treated for minor injuries related to the crash.

The woman involved in the incident, identified by police as 40-year-old Christie Edgar, faces charges of driving while intoxicated. Police are still investigating the incident.
