Virginia State Police apprehend suspect after chase on I-66

Police have taken a driver into custody Tuesday evening following a police pursuit on Interstate 66 in Northern Virginia, officials say.

Virginia State Police say it all started when a trooper attempted to stop a speeding vehicle weaving in and out of traffic at around 6:21 p.m. on westbound I-66 at Exit 57. However, the driver refused to pull over and the pursuit began.

The suspect hit at least three other vehicles while trying to get away from police, according to a police spokesperson.

Police were eventually able to stop the suspect at Mile Marker 49, authorities say.

Charges are pending against the driver, police say.

There were no injuries reported.
