Vigil held for Spotsylvania County woman found dead inside her car

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Family, friends and even complete strangers in Spotsylvania County came out to remember Heather Ciccone Wednesday night. The 21-year-old was found fatally shot inside her car Sunday night.

Each attendee received a candle and a picture of Ciccone to remember the young bright life abruptly cut short.

As the vigil took place, several unanswered questions remain about what happened to her and who is responsible.

"People are always nice and people try to do things to shoot you down, but she was the type that kept going," said Jazmyn Butler, one of Ciccone's best friends. "She was a strong person. She was level-headed. She would do anything for anybody."

#JusticeForHeather was the message at this vigil in Fredericksburg.

"Until we found out who [did it], we'll try to stay strong," said Dennis Ciccone, the victim's father. "And you see all the people around you, everybody knows her from some walk of life."

Heather's parents are turning to the community for help in catching her killer after she was found dead inside her car. Police say the waitress and former basketball player was parked in a random driveway in Spotsylvania.

"Disbelief, shock, anger -- it's just a lot," said Heather's mother, Stacy. "You can't process it yet."

Tear-stained faces, heavy hearts and memories filled the vigil as childhood friends tried to come to grips with losing one of their own. By all accounts, Heather was a warmhearted, loving social butterfly.

Her family and police confirmed she did have a female stalker. Police have interviewed the accused person several times, but they say right now that there is no suspect or person of interest.

"We want to catch them today, tomorrow, next day, and with the help of the community, we'll find him," said Dennis Ciccone.

On Wednesday, the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office posted a picture on Facebook asking anyone who saw a silver Kia car on Sunday night between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. to call them with information.

They are trying to trace Heather's whereabouts and say the "I heart u" and wink emoji on the car's rear windshield may jar memories.
