Montgomery County police are searching for an armed robber who targeted a pharmacy in Clarksburg. Police said the man was looking for specific drugs and didn't even bother with the cash register.

It was a pretty terrifying experience for the pharmacists working at the store and several nearby schools were temporarily told to shelter in place Thursday morning.

It was all caught on security cameras and police are asking for the public's help.

A masked man, who the victims described as possibly in his 20s or college-aged, calmly walked in and headed straight for the counter with his left hand pointing a gun at them.

As the store owner explained to us, the employees were so caught off guard, they first thought it was a co-worker playing some sort of joke.

"Our head pharmacist fit the same stature and everything," said owner Alan Richardson. "Initially they thought it was a prank, but obviously it wasn't."

The suspect ordered the two women to get on the floor. He knew exactly what he was looking for and asked for the key to the narcotics cabinet.

"He didn't want Adderall, he didn't want anything else, he didn't want pain patches -- he wanted painkillers," Richardson said.

This happened just before 10 a.m. The store had been open for about an hour, but fortunately, no customers came in while he was loading up his bag.

"He's a dangerous guy," said Montgomery County Police Capt. Paul Starks. "We know that somebody in the community may recognize him. Although he did cover up his face, there may be a way that he stands or that he walks that's peculiar and somebody can pick that out."

The suspect took off on foot heading toward Route 355 or possibly the area behind the building.

"We had a K9 dog up there," said Capt. Starks. "We also had a U.S. Park [Police] helicopter assisting us in the search."

The Clarksburg pharmacy sits in a quiet shopping center along Stringtown Road. This is the third time it has been robbed in two years. But it is the first time since Richardson bought the store last year. He is concerned for his employees.

"I don't want them to come to such a good place that I'm building -- a good work environment -- and then be worried about coming in to somebody robbing them. So I think we're going have to look at our security here again and reevaluate some things."

Fortunately no one was hurt. Police are offering up to a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
