VIDEO: Surveillance footage captures brazen attack on DC traffic camera

Police have released new video that may help them find a person who knocked over a traffic camera in Southeast D.C. two weeks ago.

The video from nearby surveillance cameras shows a dark-colored SUV, which investigators believe is a Hyundai Santa Fe, pulling up alongside the traffic camera.

A person wearing dark clothing then hops out from the back seat of the SUV and walks up to the camera and pushes it over. The person gets back into the back seat of the SUV and flees the scene.

Police say the incident happened just before 4 a.m. in the 3700 block of Southern Avenue, Southeast on April 12.

This incident comes as nearly a dozen speed cameras were damaged across the city two months ago.

D.C. police ask anyone with information about the incident or may know who the person of interest is to call (202) 727-9099.
