A deputy in Culpeper County was able to stop a suspected drunk driver speeding over 100 miles per hour by using a PIT maneuver to end a chase after the suspect.

Officials say at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Culpeper County Sheriff's Deputy Shawn Walters was on Germanna Highway near the Stevensburg Store when a Honda vehicle sped past him. The deputy began to pursue the car, which reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour during the chase.

According to the Culpeper County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Walters attempted to pull over the car near Carrico Mills Road, but the driver attempted to evade Walters and continued to drive recklessly as it crossed the center line several times and drove in the opposite lane around several curves.

Dashcam video from the deputy's cruiser showed Walters using a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) to spin the suspect's vehicle and stop it on Brandy Road. No one was injured during the incident.

Mark Anthony Wheeler Jr. was arrested and charged with felony eluding, driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and other related charges. He is being held without bond.
