University of Maryland student arrested for threatening to shoot officers, police say

A University of Maryland student was arrested for making threats against police officers, officials say.

University of Maryland police say they arrested 21-year-old Ryan Matthew Sulkowski after receiving a report Friday that he had made statements saying he was applying for a firearms permit, he had access to weapons and he was going to shoot campus police officers.

Sulkowski was charged with threat of mass violence and disturbing school operations.

Sulkowski's lawyer, Gary Bernstein, says the accusations stem from a roommate dispute. Bernstein says Sulkowski wasn't an applicant for a Maryland firearms permit and police haven't found weapons.

He said Sulkowski underwent an emergency evaluation Saturday, and wasn't found to be a threat.

The Baltimore man has been released on his own recognizance and has been banned from the College Park campus, police say.
