Trooper involved accident

On Friday night shortly before 9:00 p.m. troopers from Rockville Barrack were requested to assist a disabled motorist on the inner loop of I-495 at I-270 on the left shoulder of the highway.

Police officials say that they arrived on scene and Trooper Hinish activated a flare pattern on the shoulder of the road to warn other drivers.

Police say that after Trooper Hinish finished setting up his flare pattern, a 2001 Toyota Corolla drove through his flare pattern and struck his police vehicle. Both cars became disabled.

The operator of the Toyota Corolla, 53 year old Khalid M. Shah of Gaithersburg, MD, was transported by EMS personnel to Suburban Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Police say that alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor and charges are pending.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack.
