Tourists groped inside Capitol, police say

- Two tourists were groped inside the Capitol, leading to calls from members of Congress to increase visitor safety.

U.S. Capitol Police said two girls told officers they were groped and had a photo taken of them by the suspect on Nov. 22.

Authorities said the suspect, only identified as a 20-year-old man, was arrested and listed the offense as misdemeanor sex abuse.

The news came as the House voted to pass new sexual harassment training for its members and staff. Virginia Congresswoman Barbara Comstock told FOX 5 she was concerned about the report, but said she hoped other women would come forward if they were assaulted.

“I’m pleased that these people came forward in this incident in the Capitol. I know that it’s being investigated and we’re going to make sure that it’s thoroughly investigated and any such actions in the future can be prevented and stopped and there’s an awareness of how anyone might do this,” she said.

FOX 5 has requested more information from U.S. Capitol Police, including the identity of the suspect, and is waiting their response.
