Threat on Snapchat aimed at Prince George's County high school not credible, police say

A threat aimed at a Prince George's County high school has been deemed to be not credible, according to authorities.

Students at Eleanor Roosevelt High School received Snapchat pictures of an assault rifle with a magazine next to it Sunday evening. Another picture appeared to show part of a pipe bomb with the caption "Don't Go To School On Monday."

The threatening photos prompted extra security at the school in Greenbelt. Prince George's County police said the threatening photos were deemed to be non-credible after they interviewed the student, who said the weapon in the photographs was a BB gun.

"Although this threat wasn't credible, this department takes all such threats seriously and works aggressively to identify the sender," Prince George's County Deputy Chief Raphael Grant said in a written statement. "We urge all citizens, both young and old, to please think before sending such posts. While the sender may not have a criminal intent behind the post, this department, the school system and this community take them seriously."

Officials have not indicated whether the student, who has not been identified, would face charges for posting the photos.
