ARLINGTON COUNTY, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - Police say a suspicious death investigation is being conducted after a woman was reportedly stabbed and killed in Arlington County on New Year’s Day.
Officers say the stabbing was reported around 10 a.m. Tuesday in the 5100 block of 8th Road S. Officers say they transported the woman to a hospital where she died from her injuries.
Authorities say it appears to be an isolated incident with no known threat to the community.
On Tuesday, police refrained from calling the incident a homicide.
They also declined to specify where the crime occurred, but could be seen searching the front area of The Fields of Arlington apartment complex.
"Today being the New Year is not lost on us, that is why we're using all of our resources to determine exactly what occurred, and make appropriate charges. At this point we still have to collect a lot more evidence to determine what preceded the incident and then we'll make a determination of the charges based on that evidence," said Ashley Savage of the Arlington County Police Department.
The investigation is continuing at this time.
