Police canvass neighborhood in Bowie nearby where jogger was sexually assaulted on trail

Sources have confirmed to FOX 5 that a person of interest captured on surveillance video riding a bike is not connected to a sexual assault of a female jogger in Bowie.

Prince George's County police said a woman reported being grabbed by a man while she was jogging near Jennings Mill Drive and Jennings Lane at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Detectives said the suspect then sexually assaulted the woman at a playground in the area. The victim was able to break free of the man and run away.

On Wednesday, Prince George's County police detectives canvassed this Bowie neighborhood asking residents for any information in this case.

"We want anyone who lives in this area, who may have been here Monday around 4:30 [p.m.], who is familiar with the area, who may have seen anything or heard anything that was out of place, to please call us. There's no detail that is too small," said Prince George's County Police Cpl. Nicole Hubbard.

"My kids play in that park back there. My daughter plays in that park," said resident Bethany Perry. "She jogs too, so I told her to take a different route. It's heartbreaking."

Anyone with information that could aid detectives in their investigation was urged to call the Prince George's County Police Department's Sexual Assault Unit at (301) 772-4908.
