Students sent to hospital after pepper spray incident on school bus at Watkins Mill Elementary

Authorities in Montgomery County said 14 students have been transported to the hospital after a pepper spray incident Wednesday afternoon on a school bus at Watkins Mill Elementary School.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer tweeted that EMS personnel evaluated 56 students for possible exposure to the pepper spray. The students who were hospitalized were taken there as a precautionary measure and their exposure is considered non-life-threatening.

Two medical ambulances and a hazmat unit were sent to the school to assist in treating the students.

Montgomery County police said an 11-year-old girl deployed the pepper spray on the bus and are investigating why she used it.
