Still watching weekend storm but snow likely to stay south of DC region

A weekend storm moving east could bring our area snow if it manages to push its way north on its way to the coast. But the latest models suggest that the bulk of the storm, at least the most intense parts of it, will miss our area and stay to the south.

FOX 5's Tucker Barnes and Mike Thomas are tracking the models which appear to show impressive snowfall amounts striking not too far away from our region.

The storm is moving its way from the Gulf of Mexico to the North and South Carolina coasts where it should bring precipitation by Sunday night into Monday. It looks like the bulk of the storm will miss our area, Tucker says, with some areas of southern Maryland and eastern Virginia possibly getting light snow on Monday.

The heaviest of the snow appears to be centering on the Richmond and southwest Virginia areas.

Winter begins on December 21 but temperatures seem to suggest that it is already here! Chilly temperatures in the 30s are expected this weekend and are only expected to reach the low 40s into next week.

We'll keep an eye on this winter storms as it moves our direction.
