St. Patrick's Day DC 2018 parade will impact roads Sunday

The 48th Annual St. Patrick's Parade of Washington, D.C. will be held on Sunday, March 11 at noon, and will take place on Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th Streets, N.W.

This year's theme is "Showcasing DC Irish Culture," which parade organizers say was chosen to celebrate local Irish-American leaders who have been instrumental in promoting Irish culture throughout the DMV area.

The parade will form on the National Mall and proceed westbound on Constitution Avenue, NW, from 7th Street to 17th Street, NW where the parade will disband.

D.C. police say there will be early road closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on 4th and 7th Streets, between Constitution Avenue and Independence Avenue, S.W.

From 11:45 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. the following District streets will be closed:

Constitution Avenue from 6th Street and 23rd Street, N.W.
9th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. and Constitution Avenue N.W.
10th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. and Constitution Avenue N.W.
12th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. and Independence Avenue S.W. / S.E.S.W freeway
Access to 12th Street Tunnel from I-395 ramp S.W.
14th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. and Independence Avenue S.W.
14th Street Bridge inbound, with all traffic being redirected to I-395 Freeway S.W
15th Street between E Street to Constitution Avenue N.W.
17th Street between New York Avenue N.W. and Independence Avenue S.W.
19th Street between E Street to Constitution Avenue N.W.
Virginia Ave between 20th Street to Constitution Avenue N.W.

D.C. police say all street closures and listed times are subject to change based on circumstances.

There will also be parking restriction in District due to the parade. The restrictions will be in place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Parking will not be permitted on:

4th and 7th Streets, between Constitution Avenue and Independence Avenue, S.W.
Constitution Avenue from 6th Street and 23rd Street, N.W.
9th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. and Constitution Avenue N.W.
10th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. and Constitution Avenue N.W.
12th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. and Independence Avenue S.W. / S.E.S.W freeway
Access to 12th Street Tunnel from I-395 ramp S.W.
14th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue N.W. and Independence Avenue S.W.
14th Street Bridge inbound (all traffic being redirected to I-395 Freeway S.W)
15th Street between E Street to Constitution Avenue N.W.
17th Street between New York Avenue N.W. and Independence Avenue S.W.
19th Street between E Street to Constitution Avenue N.W.
Virginia Ave between 20th Street to Constitution Avenue N.W.

Metro Service

As part of continuing maintenance, there will be some regularly-scheduled weekend service adjustments for Metro lines on Sunday, March 11 that may affect your commute to the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Those who plan on attending should plan accordingly.

Yellow and Green line trains will operate on regular weekend intervals, Red line trains will operate every 15 minutes, Orange, Silver and Blue line trains will operate 20 minutes.

Red Line -- There will be single tracking between Judiciary Square and Union Station.

Orange Line -- There will be single tracking between Smithsonian and Federal Center S.W.

Silver Line -- Metro says trains will operate every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only. Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Ballston, riders should transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same platform.

Blue Line -- There will be single tracking between Smithsonian and Federal Center SW.

Yellow Line -- There will be regular service from Huntington to Fort Totten

Green Line -- Trains will single track between Prince George's Plaza and College Park to allow for rail fastener renewal and communication upgrades.
