1 killed after small plane crashes in Montgomery County

LAYTONSVILLE, Md. - Authorities say one person has died after a small plane crashed in Montgomery County .

Police and fire officials say the crash happened at around 6:17 p.m. in a field off of Laytonsville Road near Hawkins Creamery Road, located nearby the airfield at Davis Airport in Gaithersburg.

Firefighters responded and put out a fire at the site of the crash. A county fire spokesperson says the victim who died is believed to be the only person on the single-engine plane.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been notified of the crash.
