Single vehicle fatal collision

ROCKVILLE, Md - A woman died early Saturday morning after a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred in Rockville.

Soon after midnight, 4th District officers were responding to a call for service when they observed a vehicle traveling south on Georgia Avenue approaching Maryland Route 200 or the Inter-County Connector (ICC).

The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and did not have the headlights on. Before officers could take action, the vehicle, for reasons still under investigation, left the road and struck a traffic pole at Georgia Avenue and the ICC.

The driver is being identified as Penelope Ann Garland, 68 years old, of the 3500 block of Daisy Lane in Woodbine. After the accident officials transported her to Suburban Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
