Montgomery County fire officials said a man was rescued after a basement collapse in his Silver Spring home.

Authorities said the resident was in the basement of his house in the 2400 block of Briggs Road checking on the sump pump at the height of the storm. As he did, the wall gave way and collapsed on him.

Another person inside the home then called 911.

The man was transported to the hospital with lower extremity injuries.

"He was alert and conscious at all times," said Scott Goldstein of Montgomery County Fire and Rescue. "The crews worked to determine the stability of the house, then removed the debris from his legs and brought him to the outside."

Fire officials said the family has been displaced from the home.
