Search for man who escaped motel barricade continues; police say may be connected to new incidents

- Police say a man who escaped a barricade situation in Fairfax County last weekend may be connected to a string of incidents reported in the Alexandria area earlier this week.

Officers say 32-year-old Alton Thodos was being served an arrest warrant at the Virginia Lodge Motel in Alexandria on September 29 when he barricaded himself in a room and threatened to harm himself if police entered.

Investigators say Thodos was able to make his way into the ceiling and through the attic of the motel escaping through another part of the building before officers were able to secure the perimeter.

On Thursday, officers say they believe Thodos was involved in a series of incidents that occurred in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. Around 10 a.m., police say a man matching his description was seen opening car doors along Belle Haven Road and Radcliff Lane. They say the he left the area in a stolen vehicle. Later on Thursday, police say he a man matching his description stole keys to a vehicle and drove away from a home in Burgundy Road.

Officers say Thodos is wanted for active warrants on grand larceny, credit card theft, credit card fraud and a probation violation, police say.

He is described as 6-feet-1-inch tall and weighs 175 pounds. He has a beard and was last seen wearing a red hat and a white shirt.
