Train service was temporarily suspended Friday afternoon between the McPherson Square and Federal Center SW stations after reports of smoke, sparks and flames on the tracks at Metro Center.

Metro said an arcing insulator incident occurred on the lower level of the station and passengers were evacuated from that area. The upper level of the station remained open.

Rail service was being affected on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines. Shuttle buses are being provided for passengers.

The fire department responded to Metro Center as a precaution, according to Metro.
