TEMPLE HILLS, Md. - A Prince George's County resident reached to FOX 5 with concerns over possible illegal dumping at an old driving range and miniature golf course in Temple Hills.
In front of the closed-down Golfzilla driving range on Brinkley Road, there is a “No Dumping” sign on the property that shows people can face a $30,000 fine or even receive jail time. Next to it on a mailbox is an order from the county to clean up the property, but not much appears to have been done.
Residents in the area have been complaining for over a year about random items being dumped on the lot. Discarded belongings such as couches, bar stools, trash bags, laundry baskets, mattresses and even old carpets were just some of the things seen on the premises.
Rhonda Stewart told FOX 5 that she has contacted the county about the dumping and believes officials should have acted quicker to respond to this problem.
“I have been putting in emails to them and calls since last summer,” she said.
However on Tuesday, people with box trucks were seen arriving at the property as they collected some of the items that had been dumped into those trucks before hauling them away.
FOX 5 reached out to the county and they told us they had to notify the property's owner over and over again before they could finally send crews to clean it up.
As for who will pay for the cleanup, the county said they are going to put a lien on the property, so the owner will have to pay for it in the near future or when the property is sold.
