Prince George's County man threw sulfuric acid on roommate, police say

HYATTSVILLE, Md. - A Prince George's County man has been arrested for attempted murder after police say he threw sulfuric acid on his female roommate.

Police say officers responded to the 1000 block of East-West Highway Saturday night for a report of a roommate dispute and found a woman suffering from apparent chemical burns to her face and upper body. She was taken to the hospital and is currently in critical condition.

The victim's roommate, Bekre Abdela, fled the scene before officers arrived and was identified as a suspect in the liquid attack. The 28-year-old man was located and arrested two days later.

Police say Abdela has admitted to the attack, but the motive remains under investigation.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Abdela is also facing other charges that include assault.
