A 24-year-old Prince George's County man has been arrested for the murder of his wife after she stabbed to death on New Year's Day, according to police.

Prince George's County police say officers with the Brentwood Police Department responded to a residence in the 4500 block of 38th Place for a report of a domestic-related assault at around 8:15 a.m. Monday. After arriving, they found 24-year-old Lisbet Mendez suffering from stab wounds. She was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators say the victim's husband, Erwin Lorenzo Sanchez, stabbed her during an argument.

The officers arrested Sanchez at the scene.

Sanchez has been charged with first- and second-degree murder in addition to assault charges. He is currently being held without bond.
