WASHINGTON - D.C. police said an unidentified man punched a woman near 11th and Kenyon Streets in Northwest D.C. Wednesday morning in an unprovoked and random attack.
The woman, who spoke to FOX 5 but only wanted to be referred to by her first name Mariah, said she was heading to get coffee around 11 a.m. when she passed a man on the sidewalk. Suddenly, she felt a punch to the side of the head before briefly blacking out.
Mariah said she did not get a good look at her attacker and walked away in shock. Eventually, she realized her ear was gushing blood. She went to an urgent care center and called police.
“As soon as I went to pass him, I just felt a punch hit the side of my face," she said. "I kind of blacked out for a second and then I started bleeding."
A police report FOX 5 obtained said an officer canvassed the neighborhood, but did not find the attacker.
Mariah wants the community to be aware that the man remains at-large.
D.C. police said the incident appears to be isolated and they do not have any recent reports of similar attacks.
