Police: Man arrested for requesting sex, explicit pictures from minors online in undercover sting

Police said a Maryland man drove to Virginia to meet a 12-year-old girl he met online to engage in sexual acts. However, it turned out the girl was an undercover cop.

Prince William County police said 45-year-old Michael Riggleman is facing several charges after he placed an ad online asking for children to send explicit pictures and to participate in sexual acts.

Police would not say exactly what website Riggleman was using. However, they said the site has been monitored for this type of illicit activity and that is how detectives on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force discovered Riggleman.

The undercover operation started on June 26 and lasted multiple days as a a detective posed as an underage girl.

"Our detective posed undercover as a juvenile female and began a conversation with this individual in which he believed he was communicating with - a juvenile female - and was at that time soliciting and providing illicit photos," said Prince William County Police Sgt. Jonathan Perok. "During those conversations, he wanted to advance what he was asking for. Not just photos, but he actually wanted to meet to possibly engage in sexual acts. He arranged to meet the juvenile at a location in Manassas. At that location, we had members of our SWAT team take him into custody."

Riggleman was arrested Tuesday at an undisclosed location in Manassas.

Riggleman has been charged with production of child pornography under the age of 15, attempted indecent liberties with children and using a communication device to facilitate certain offenses involving children under the age of 15.

He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 13.
