Police investigating string of sexual assault and abduction incidents in Arlington

Since Friday, Arlington County police say there have been a series of attacks on women in the area.

Four different incidents have been reported since Friday, according to police.

The most recent attack happened early Sunday morning after police say an Uber driver sexually assaulted a female passenger in the 900 block of S. Randolph Street.

"All of the sudden, the driver then represented this is the wrong Uber vehicle, you were not here for me, but that's fine, just cancel the other drive and I'll take you," said Arlington County Deputy Chief Daniel Murray. "As a result, he decided that he needed to charge them $50. They thought that was an exorbitant amount."

Initially the victim was with a friend, but police say the driver attacked the victim after dropping the friend off.

"He eventually assaulted her," said Murray. "Eventually before it got too out of control, she was able to escape, get back to her friend's house and the police were called."

He also added, "To the best of our knowledge, the driver is still out there."

Late Saturday night, a 25-year-old woman was walking home in the 4300 block of N. Pershing Drive when she was grabbed from behind, pushed to the ground and inappropriately touched. The victim bit one of his hands before he fled. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, between 5'0" to 5'3" tall with black hair and a mustache. He was wearing a gray t-shirt and jeans during the assault.

Police say at noon on Saturday, a man attempted to abduct a 17-year-old girl by repeatedly soliciting her to come to his vehicle in the 800 block of S. Courthouse Road. The suspect is described as a black male between 30 to 40 years old.

A woman running on the Washington and Old Dominion trail was approached from behind and thrown to the ground last Friday night in the 300 block of S. Harrison Street. The victim screamed causing the suspect to run away. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, about 5'6" tall and 140 pounds. He was wearing long gray shorts, a belt and no shirt at the time of the incident.

The attacks have even seasoned law enforcement baffled. Murray said crime is the lowest it has been in three to four decades.
