Police investigating reported stabbing of 2 juveniles on Metro train

WASHINGTON - Police are investigating the stabbing of two juveniles that reportedly took place on an Orange Line train Monday afternoon.

According to Metro, D.C. police said one of their officers encountered the two juvenile male victims in the 1200 block of I Street in Southeast D.C.

Metro said one of the victims reported to police that the stabbing happened at around 3:30 p.m. onboard a train at the Potomac Avenue station as they were traveling in a group of about 20 people.

The victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are conducting interviews and reviewing camera footage, Metro said.

One month ago, a teenager walking home from the Potomac Ave Metro station was assaulted and robbed just a block away from the station.

A neighborhood initiative program called SafeRoutes kicked off on Monday from the hours of 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Ward 6. Neighborhood volunteers wearing yellow vests are patrolling around the Potomac Avenue Metro station to help residents get home safely.

D.C. police also said that they will also devote at least one police cruiser to patrol the area during the high-traffic area hours in hopes of stopping some of the violent crimes that have happened recently.
