Police investigating shooting at apartment complex parking lot in Triangle

Three people were injured from broken glass after a shooting at an apartment complex in Triangle Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the shooting happened at the Southampton Apartments in the 4100 block of Southway Lane just before 2:30 p.m.

Two adults and a child were sitting inside a red Kia vehicle in the parking lot when they were fired at by a person in an SUV. Their car was struck by the gunfire and the victim behind the wheel of the Kia drove their vehicle away from the scene to the First Assembly of God church on Inn Street where they contacted police.

The victims were taken to the hospital after suffering minor injuries from shattered glass, but they were not wounded in the shooting, according to police.

The suspect, who is believed to have been driving a black or dark-colored SUV with temporary tags, fled the area after the shooting.

Police say the shooting remains under investigation.
