DC Police are searching for suspects who’ve been driving around the District shooting people at random with a BB gun — six people were hurt in at least nine different attacks — in what police believe is being done by the same people.
Police say the suspects are terrorizing certain areas in the Southeast and Northeast quadrants of the city.
According to police, the suspects have been targeting people who are walking, waiting for the bus or in their cars — they even allegedly shot out a police car window.
“I was just sitting down minding my business and out of nowhere I just heard a loud pop! And then my face — I knew I was hit,” a man who did not want to be identified told FOX 5.
He says he was shot while waiting for the bus on Alabama Avenue in Southeast Sunday evening. Police say he’s one of six victims shot in less than two hours.
“We had citizens who were going about their daily routine that were targeted by these suspects,” said DC Police Commander Leslie Parsons. “We believe in a majority of our cases we had a vehicle and suspects were discharging the BB gun from the vehicle.”
Police say the shootings started just before 8:30 Sunday night and continued almost every few minutes until 10 p.m. Most of them occurring in Southeast — three on Alabama Ave. in less than 10 minutes.
Investigators say the suspects targeted people who were walking, waiting at bus stops or sitting in their cars — six people were hurt and several car windows were shot out including one on a parked DC Police cruiser.
Meanwhile, investigators have released a picture of a vehicle of interest — a black SUV — in hopes someone comes forward...
“Right now, it’s still under investigation so its too soon to tell what the motive behind something like this would be,” said Parsons.
“I still have the BB in the side of my face, so it’s definitely not a joke. I had to go to the hospital. Hit with a hospital bill, ride an ambulance — another guy came in half an hour after me and was shot in the ass. This is not cool. People are ending up in the hospital. I’m missing days of work because of this. I was shot in the head... this is not cool,” the unidentified man said.
He says he is in a lot of pain as he still has that BB bullet lodged in his cheek below his jaw and he could need surgery to remove it.
