Pilot dies in ultralight aircraft crash

An ultralight aircraft crashed in Caroline County claiming the life of the pilot Sunday morning at around 9 a.m.

Michael Malick, 71, was flying a Dream Machine 582 when the ascending aircraft hit a power line, according to investigators. Officials say the pilot lost control of the aircraft shortly after takeoff for unknown reasons.

Witnesses told Maryland State Police that the plane spiraled to the ground as a parachute was deployed from the aircraft at a privately owned residential landing strip in the 3000 block of Seippes Road. Police say the deceased pilot is the owner of the landing strip.

Federal Aviation Administration officials are continuing the investigation.
