One year after he was killed aboard a train, Metro is displaying photographs taken by an American University graduate student inside one of its rail stations. Starting Friday, photographs taken by Kevin Sutherland will be showcased inside the NoMa-Gallaudet station.

Sutherland, a talented photographer, took photos all over the city of D.C. landmarks, and was traveling to the National Mall for the Fourth of July fireworks display when he was viciously attacked.

Among Sutherland's photos that are on display are images of the Washington Monument, the U.S. Capitol, the Jefferson Memorial, Union Station and more. His family wanted a place to display the photos, and Metro says they were happy to offer a venue.

"It is a very emotional thing for us to see our son's photography displayed in the NoMa station," Kevin's father Douglas Sutherland said. "Kevin had many gifts and he was becoming a very talented, self-taught photographer. We are very grateful to the DC Metro and the Art in Transit program for helping us put his works on display for so many others to enjoy. We will never stop wondering about the beauty he would have captured had his life not been cut so short."
