Newborn abandoned on doorstep in Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - A newborn boy was left outside a home in Annapolis early Friday morning, according to police.

Officers said they responded to a home in the 2000 block of Forest Drive at about 6:35 a.m. after receiving a call of an abandoned infant.

The baby appeared to be in good health and was taken to the hospital for care, according to police.

Officials said the child was found with a small purple Mudd brand women's shirt and a black Adidas hooded jacket with three red stripes on the sleeves.

Authorities were concerned about the well-being of the child's mother and urged her to come forward, as she may need medical attention.

Police asked anyone with information about the mother to please call detectives at (410) 260-3439. Officials urged the public to not post or share personal information about the mother onto the Annapolis Police Department's social media pages.

Police reiterated that Maryland's Safe Haven law allows a distressed parent who's unable or unwilling to care for their infant to safely surrender custody with no questions asked. Under the law, newborns can be left at hospitals or law enforcement stations.
