Midshipman charged with burglary after found sleeping in woman's apartment

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A Naval Academy midshipman has been charged with burglary after he was found sleeping in an Annapolis apartment.

The Capital of Annapolis reports (http://bit.ly/1P0MVQL) that a 74-year-old woman called police Sunday morning when she discovered 20-year-old Max Smith sleeping on a chair in her living room. Smith left the apartment, but police found him outside.

Smith told police he was drinking at a bar the night before and met a girl. The two left together and made their way to the Eastport apartment complex, where they entered an apartment through an unlocked door and had sexual relations.

Smith, whose identification card says he's a midshipman at the Naval Academy, was charged with fourth-degree burglary.

The Naval Academy says it is aware of the arrest and is conducting an internal investigation.
