Metro construction project from Aug 11-26 to cause delays along parts of Orange, Blue & Silver lines

Scheduled track work along portions of Metro's Orange, Blue and Silver lines will have a major impact on commuters during much of the second half of August.

Officials say the track work will begin on August 11 and will last through August 26. Metro crews will use the time to address one of the transit system's tightest curves which runs between the McPherson Square and Smithsonian stations.

Metro officials say the track work will cause single tracking between McPherson Square and Smithsonian will cause Orange and Silver line trains to operate every 20 minutes at all times. Blue Line trains will operate between Franconia-Springfield and Arlington Cemetery and additional Yellow Line trains will provide service during rush hour between Franconia-Springfield and Greenbelt. Customers traveling between Virginia and Downtown D.C. should use the Yellow Line instead, officials say.

On the weekends of August 11-12 and 25-26, Orange, Silver & Blue line trains along Farragut West, McPherson Square, and the lower level platform at Metro Center will all be closed.

Metro officials are encouraging riders to use alternate transportation and to only use Metrorail if there is no other option. They also say the Rush Hour Promise will not be in effect for trips on the Orange, Blue or Silver lines during this project.
