Man arrested for July 4th shooting of ice cream truck driver in Hyattsville

HYATTSVILLE, Md. - Police have arrested a 22-year-old man for the shooting of an ice cream truck driver on the Fourth of July in Hyattsville.

Prince George's County police have taken Demetrice Littles into custody after their investigation revealed that he confronted the victim, Mohamed Diaby, before robbing and shooting him.

Diaby was shot nine times and suffered injuries to his legs and hands. He was released from the hospital over a week after the shooting, but still suffered from pain and had trouble walking getting around, needing the assistance of a walker.

Diaby told FOX 5 that he had just parked his ice cream truck when he was confronted by two men in a robbery.

"He got the gun on me like, 'Give me the money! Give me the money!' I said, 'Okay, whatever I have here, I'll give it to you. But don't hurt me. I have a family. Don't hurt me, please,'" he described.

After giving the suspects the money, Diaby was hit over the head with a gun and then shot.

Police said they are still searching for the other suspect involved in the shooting.

Littles was arrested while visiting his parole officer, according to police.
