LIVE UPDATES: Rain, higher temps cause flooding concerns

WASHINGTON - A President's Day winter storm brought snow, sleet and freezing rain to the D.C. region -- but now temperatures are climbing and the weekend looks promising.

Here are the latest weather-related updates for the area.

Tuesday, February 16

3:55 p.m.

The Flood Watch has been canceled for our area.

12:25 p.m.

The rain has moved out of the area and temperatures are climbing. Flooding concerns still remain. The weekend looks beautiful.

10:46 a.m.

Flood Warning issued until 2 p.m.

10:20 a.m.

Flooding concerns as rain melt ice from Monday's storm. Reports of standing water and flooded roadways.

8:00 a.m.

Look for ice to melt later this afternoon as rising temps and rain wash away most of the slush. But with the rain and melting also comes concerns of flooding.

7:00 a.m.

Treacherous driving condition - especially along the side-streets. Temps are on the rise, however, ice will remain a problem until later in the day. Heavy rains expected to wash away most of the frozen slush.

6:00 a.m.

4:29 a.m.

Freezing rain has encased vehicles in ice and has left neighborhood streets and secondary roads extremely difficult to navigate Tuesday morning. Expect freezing temperatures until around 10 a.m. Pockets of freezing rain can still be found early Tuesday. Heavy rain should wash across the area by the afternoon.

10:56 p.m.

Virginia State Police say a female motorist driving a vehicle west on Route 7 in Loudoun County rear-ended a backhoe and died at the scene at 7:07 p.m. Monday. The operator of the backhoe was not injured.

9:10 p.m.

Virginia State Police are warning motorists to stay off the roads if possible. Police say they are investigating a fatal crash in Loudoun County. It is one of three fatal crashes in the state on Monday.

8:49 p.m.

Alexandria City Public Schools will open on a 2-hour delay on Tuesday. Full list of closings and delays here: www.fox5dc.com/closings

8:21 p.m.

Metrobus service will be suspected starting at 10 p.m. due to the potential of freezing rain and hazardous road conditions. Normal service will resume Tuesday morning.

7:29 p.m.

Washington D.C. has been dropped from the Winter Storm Warning and is now under a Winter Weather Advisory for ice until 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to FOX 5's Caitlin Roth.

7:16 p.m.

FOX 5's Caitlin Roth says most of the area is now seeing sleet and/or freezing rain. Sidewalks and roads are likely to ice quickly, so be careful out there!

7 p.m.

Fairfax County Public Schools said they will open 2 hours late on Tuesday. School offices will also open 2 hour late. Central offices will open by 10 a.m.

6:48 p.m.

Loudoun County Public Schools announced they will be closed on Tuesday. All activities are cancelled. Administrative offices will open at noon. Scheduled activities on school campuses may be allowed after 4 p.m. A determination and announcement will be made by noon.

Prince William County Public Schools will be closed Tuesday due to the inclement weather. Code Red for employees. All school division activities including Professional Development sessions are cancelled. SACC will not open. Telework subject to policy.

Falls Church City Public Schools will open on a 2-hour delay Tuesday.

6:12 p.m.

Fauquier County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. School officials say offices will open at 10 a.m. Liberal leave is in effect. Latest weather closings and delays here: www.fox5dc.com/closings

5:45 p.m.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue say a women was injured after hitting a tree in a sledding accident.

5:25 p.m.

Be careful out on the roadways. The freezing rain is causing icy conditions for many in our area.

4:45 p.m.

Stafford County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday due to the inclement weather. Code 2 for employees with liberal leave in effect. Administrative offices will open at 10 a.m.

4:10 p.m.

Spotsylvania County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday. 12-month employees are Code 1 as safety permits.

3:54 p.m.

Metro is continuing to operate on a Saturday schedule on all lines (trains are departing every 12 minutes) and the transit agency says there has been no significant disruptions. Bus service is operating on a severe snow plan.

3:45 p.m.

Virginia State Police said as of 2 p.m. Monday, their troopers have responded to 538 traffic crashes and 347 disabled vehicles across the state. There has been only one reported traffic-related death.

3:22 p.m.

A Flood Watch has been issued for most of the D.C. region from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday.

1:50 p.m.

Comcast says outages that affected service for many customers across the country have been mostly repaired: In a statement, Comcast wrote:

"We have repaired the temporary network interruption that impacted some of our services this morning. Our engineers continue to work on this issue and almost all services have already been restored. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused our customers."

12:48 p.m.

WARRENTON, Va. (AP) -- Virginia State Police say one person is dead after an SUV hit a snow plow in Fauquier County.

State Police said in a statement that they responded around 7 a.m. Monday to the crash on Crest Hill Road. State Police say the SUV struck the snow plow head on.

State Police say more information will be released once the family of driver who died has been notified.
