FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — A man who tortured a McLean lawyer and his wife inside their home after his wife was fired from the man's law firm has been sentenced to life in prison.
Thirty-three-year-old Andrew Schmuhl was sentenced Friday to two life terms plus 98 years for the attack on Leo Fisher and Sue Duncan. Both survived, even though Schmuhl stabbed Duncan, shot Fisher with a stun gun and slit his throat. Schmuhl fled after Duncan played dead and was able to sound an alarm.
Police later arrested Schmuhl, who was wearing only an adult diaper, in a car. Schmuhl's wife, Alecia, who had been fired from Fisher's firm, allegedly was driving the getaway car.
The sentence was the maximum the judge could impose following Schmuhl's conviction in June.
Alecia Schmuhl goes on trial next month.
