Interstate 270 crash in Montgomery County kills 2 off-duty officers

UPDATE: Two men, both off-duty officers have died after being struck following a car crash along I-270 in Montgomery County.

A violent crash on Interstate 270 in Montgomery County left at least one person dead on Friday, according to authorities.

Montgomery County police said the multi-vehicle crash happened on southbound I-270 between Falls and Montrose roads in the Rockville area at about 10 p.m.

At least one person was killed and authorities said one person was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, three were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and two others were evaluated at the scene.

Officials originally stated that two victims were believed to have been ejected from a vehicle from the southbound lanes into the northbound lanes, but later clarified they believed the victims crashed, got out of the vehicle and were struck by a vehicle.

Interstate 270 has lanes blocked in both directions, according to police. Maryland State Police were investigating the crash.
