ICE sanctuary city flyers posted in DC are fake, Mayor Bowser says

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser says flyers posted around the District warning about penalties for supporting illegal immigration are fake, and she wants residents who see the flyers around the city to take them down.

Photos of the flyers were originally posted on the blog Popville, after people saw them scattered across the city. Flyers were found in southwest DC and along Foxhall Road in northwest DC, among other places.

They appear to be authentic, and include logos from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Bowser, the Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Public Works all had them removed. Bowser told FOX 5 the flyers are not real, and she reiterated that DC is a sanctuary city.

"We want the residents of D.C. to know .... tear it down," Bowser said.

Anyone with information about who posted the flyers is asked to call the Metropolitan Police Department.

Takoma Park police also tweeted about the flyers, asking anyone who sees one posted to take it down and call the Takoma Park Police Department.

"We respect all City of Takoma Park residents no matter their immigration status. Takoma Park remains a sanctuary city," the department said in a tweet.
